Dr. Krishna Adhikari, Consultant Rheumatologist

Dr. Krishna Adhikari is a consultant rheumatologist in the Kathmandu Valley, Nepal, and, since 2023, a Lecturer in the Department of Internal Medicine at Patan Academy of Health Sciences (Patan Hospital), Lalitpur. He completed his MBBS at the University of Science and Technology Chittagong in 2013 and his MD in internal medicine at National Medical College Teaching Hospital, Birgunj, in 2020, followed by the Fellowship in Clinical Rheumatology at Patan Academy of Health Sciences in 2023. He has practised medicine since 2013 and has cared for patients with rheumatic diseases since 2022. He is a life member of the Nepal Rheumatology Association, and is registered with the Nepal Medical Council (NMC No. 13049). He has seen patients at Tulsi Multi Speciality Clinic, AVM Chowk, Manbhawan, Lalitpur, since March 2023. Dr. Adhikari diagnoses and treats rheumatic, autoimmune and musculoskeletal conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout and high uric acid, lupus (SLE), ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, fibromyalgia, vasculitis, Sjögren's syndrome and other connective tissue diseases. In Nepali, these joint conditions are commonly called Bath Rog (बाथ रोग). Alongside his clinic, Dr. Adhikari teaches at Patan Academy of Health Sciences, whose Department of Medicine runs a dedicated rheumatology unit at Patan Hospital. His published research is in rheumatology: he is first author of a 2025 study of blood abnormalities in people with lupus (SLE) at a tertiary-care centre in Nepal and of a 2023 case report on dermatomyositis with anti-TIF1-gamma antibodies, senior author of case reports on Sjögren's syndrome and adult-onset Still's disease, and a co-author of a WHO-ILAR COPCORD community survey of musculoskeletal pain in Pyuthan district. He also explains rheumatic diseases for patients, in Nepali, on his YouTube channel. His approach focuses on early diagnosis, long-term symptom control and preventing joint damage. Alongside medication, he gives guidance on diet (especially for gout and uric acid), physical activity and regular monitoring to reduce flare-ups.
